Daybreakers Opens CaptureHumans.com Viral Marketing Site
December 15th, 2009 – With less than a month to go, the promotional efforts for Lions Gate’s highly anticipated vampire film, Daybreakers, is beginning to pick up. In the vein of the Daybreaker Twitter account opened last month, a new web site called CaptureHumans.com has been launched with details on how the process of our evolution into vampires will take place.
Just as the Twitter updates, which followed the in-character experiences of a human who encountered vampires for the first time, made use of a major social networking site to spread the word about the film’s storyline; the new Capture Humans web site makes use of Facebook as an effective viral marketing tool.
Capture Humans is presented as a landing page for the movie’s Bromley Marks Bank, a blood bank that capitalizes on the shortage of human blood supply in 2019. When you visit the site, you and your friends can become the people who are among the original vampires after you connect it to your Facebook profile. The process of becoming a vampire will then be explained to you. A few tips for capturing humans, in a way that conveniently serves the Bromley Marks bank well, are also detailed on the front page.
Daybreakers opens on January 8th, 2010. See our previous news items about the movie for details.

UK’s ITV Brings Vampire Diaries to iTunes before TV Air Dates
December 11th, 2009 – ITV and Warner Bros will make each episode of “The Vampire Diaries” available for sale on Apple’s iTunes online before it broadcasts for the first time in the UK on ITV2.
The teen drama, which airs on The CW in the US (simultaneously with CTV in Canada), will not begin on British TV until February of 2010. In an effort to fight online piracy of the wildly popular show, the UK’s ITV decided to make episodes available online before their local air dates.
The delay of American television shows in England, and many countries around the world for that matter, has been an issue for fans for some time now. Some blockbuster Hollywood films are released simultaneously worldwide (or at least within a month of the US release) but the majority of mainstream TV series are still delayed, sometimes by as much as a year or longer. In an age where it’s become more convenient to download a TV show off a shady web site than to wait for a local air date, fans have often resorted to the internet for their favorite series. This is a step in the right direction in providing a legal alternative.
For fans in North America, “The Vampire Diaries” returns to The CW (US) and CTV (Canada) on January 14th, 2010.

Twilight Saga Eclipse Coming to IMAX
December 9th 2009 – Summit Entertainment and IMAX Corporation announced that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third movie to be adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s young-adult vampire novels, will be released simultaneously to IMAX theaters on its opening day: June 30th, 2010.
To make the most of the follow-up to the record-breaking Twilight Saga: New Moon film adaptation, Eclipse will be digitally re-mastered into the giant-sized IMAX Experience with a proprietary IMAX Digital Re-mastering technology, DMR.
The third movie is directed by David Slade, whose past work includes the critically-acclaimed 2007 vampire film “30 Days of Night”. In a move similar to Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible franchise, each of the Twilight films have, so far, been helmed by a different director (Catherine Hardwicke directed the first Twilight film and Chris Weitz directed Twilight Saga: New Moon.) Meanwhile, stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner will reprise their roles of Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, respectively, throughout the series’s big screen adaptations.
Stephenie Meyer’s Eclipse, the original novel on which the upcoming movie is based, was released on August 7th, 2007 with an initial print run of one million copies, 150,000 of which were sold within the first 24 hours.

Johnny Depp to Star in Tim Burton’s Adaptation of Dark Shadows
July 2009 (Updated December 7th, 2009) – The long-rumored film adaptation of the ’60s Gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows, has been confirmed as a new collaboration between star Johnny Depp, director Tim Burton, and screenwriter John August (Go, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.)
Deep Shadows ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971 with stories about vampires, ghosts, and other monsters. The 175-year old vampire, Barnabas Collins, roamed the town of Collinsport, Maine in search for his lost love. While the character was originally planned as a 13-week story arc in the show, the massive response from viewers prompted Barnabas to become the lead character for the following four years.
The show has been adapted into two films in the early 1970s and revived as a series in 1991 as well as a pilot that failed to be picked up in 2004. With Hollywood’s attention toward the vampire genre re-ignited by recent trends, it’s no surprise that more adaptations are in development as of 2009.

Pitt is no stranger to vampire stories on film, having starred in the movie adaptation of Anne Rice’s classic Interview With The Vampire. This time, however, the star is set to produce rather than star in the upcoming ‘Vlad’, with his production company, Plan B Entertainment, alongside Dede Gardner.
The script for the new ‘Vlad’ movie was picked up from actor Charlie Hunnam by Summit Entertainment some time ago and had been quietly in development until music video director Anthony Mandler presented a reel that execs compared to ‘300′.

December 7th, 2009 – Canadian actor, Dillon Casey, who recently appeared on CBC’s “Being Erica”, is set to guest star on The CW’s wildly popular vampire-driven television series, “The Vampire Diaries”.
Dillon Casey, who was raised in Oakville, Ontario (outside of the city of Toronto), is best known for his role in the Canadian T.V. series, “MVP: The Secret Lives of Hockey Wives”.
In his upcoming guest role on “The Vampire Diaries”, the actor will portray a character by the name of Noah, who becomes obsessed with the series’ protagonist, Elena.
Casey is no stranger to vampires. His previous roles include the character of Sebastian in “Valemont”, an MTV mini-series about vampires. The appearance on the Vampire Diaries will also be the second time that the actor has worked with Nina Dobrev (who plays Elena) — the two starred together in a Lifetime movie entitled “Too Young To Marry” (2007).
Noah’s interest in Elena will reportedly prompt her main vampire love interest, Stefan, to become overly protective.
