Kristin Bauer Officially Becomes a True Blood Regular… in a Lesbian Vampire Storyline
December 10th, 2009 – Actress Kristin Bauer has officially become a regular on HBO’s popular vampire series, True Blood, as of season 3. Her character, Pam, may be involved in a lesbian relationship in the new season.
The Wisconsin-raised actress has spent the majority of her career in guest starring roles on many of the most watched television shows over the past two decades, with credits that range from 1994 appearances on “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” and “L.A. Law” to recent hit shows like “Bones”, “CSI” (Las Vegas), and “Desperate Housewives”.
So far, Bauer has appeared in eleven episodes of True Blood’s first two seasons as Eric’s Fangtasia sidekick, Pam. As of the upcoming season 3 of HBO’s high rated television show, she has been promoted to series regular.
The series creator, Alan Ball, hinted that season 3 may deliver a new twist for the character of Pam that involves a lesbian relationship.
Vampires and lesbian storylines have co-existed in fiction since one of the earliest published English vampire stories in the world: Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu, originally published in 1872, told the story of a lesbian vampire who pursued the female protagonist. The book has since been adapted to many low-budget horror films, including cheesy title references that barely pass for an adaptation of the original English prose at all. More recently, of course, the character of Willow was involved in a lesbian plot during Joss Whedon’s cult hit TV series, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, which was arguably the Twilight of the 1990’s in terms of supporting the mainstream presence of vampires in drama and romance fiction.
The third season of “True Blood” started production last week, and will premiere on HBO in June 2010.
“True Blood” is based on Charlaine Harris’ “Southern Vampire Mysteries” novels told from the perspective of Sookie Stackhouse, the protagonist played by Anna Paquin in the TV show. It continues to be one of the most watched shows of all time on HBO, second only to “The Sopranos”.
